Today, this is a sector that faces many challenges linked to decarbonization, the so-called blue economy, and the necessary innovation to maintain competitiveness in an increasingly globalized environment.
Increasingly, ships must respond to more demanding standards that minimize fuel consumption and tend to neutral emissions and decarbonization. The introduction of digitalization and technology is another challenge in a sector that often operates with long-established shipyards that are facing a change in their traditional way of operating.
Likewise, in the last years, the naval sector has developed relevant innovations in the field of ship design, batteries for ship electrification, new fuels, green ports and intelligent logistics that are promoting a more sustainable supply chain.
MaritimeTrends is an event organized by Asime, the Association of Metal Industries and Related Technologies of Galicia. This Spanish organization brings together more than 600 companies from the automotive, aeronautics, shipbuilding, metal structures and other activities of the industrial sector, which represent 20% of the Galician region’s GDP and employ more than 67.000 workers.
